This was my third such summit and it was another solid Drupal event. I wanted to list the key ideas I took away from the conference as well as some modules and software that I am unfamiliar with but heard about over the two days.<\/p>\n<h3>Key Ideas<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Testing is becoming a major part of the Drupal development process.\n<ul>\n<li>This is awesome! There were fantastic sessions on PHPUnit and several on Behat. It is certainly a positive direction. There is no requirement to write tests but there is tremendous upside if you are creating reusable components, building from an install profile, or have mission critical components. Testing has been around for a long time with SimpleTest and other methodologies. However, there seemed to be a big focus on it at the summit.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mile23.com\/phpunit-talk\" target=\"_blank\">PHP Unit Testing<\/a>,<a href=\"dspeak.com\/pnwds\" target=\"_blank\">Behat &amp; Drupal<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Treat your site, service, component, etc&#8230; as a product.\n<ul>\n<li>I really enjoyed this concept. It appeared in several sessions as an underlying theme. The main concept is that whatever you are building, try hard to make it as if it was a standalone product. It should obviously work well, but how is the UI, is there documentation, tests, versions, etc&#8230; If we try for the above with each project or anything we are developing the finished piece should be better overall.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/2013.pnwdrupalsummit.org\/sessions\/strategies-and-tips-building-enterprise-drupal-applications\" target=\"_blank\">Enterprise Drupal<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/2013.pnwdrupalsummit.org\/sessions\/delivering-amazing-drupal-support\" target=\"_blank\">Delivering Amazing Support<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/2013.pnwdrupalsummit.org\/sessions\/making-you-and-your-clients-happy-using-reusable-components-build-drupal-sites\" target=\"_blank\">Reusable Components<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Modules and other software<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/drupal.org\/project\/drupalextension\" target=\"_blank\">Behat Drupal Extension<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/drupal.org\/project\/xsendfile\" target=\"_blank\">xSendFile for Drupal<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/tn123.org\/mod_xsendfile\/\" target=\"_blank\">mod for Apache<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/drupal.org\/project\/site_audit\" target=\"_blank\">Drupal Site Audit<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/bundler.io\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bundler<\/a> for Ruby<\/li>\n<li>Organic Groups (OG) specific modules\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/drupal.org\/project\/og_ldap_api\" target=\"_blank\">LDAP API<\/a> integration<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/drupal.org\/project\/og_menu\" target=\"_blank\">OG Menu<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/drupal.org\/project\/og_create_perms\" target=\"_blank\">OG Create Permissions<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/drupal.org\/project\/panopoly_magic\" target=\"_blank\">Panopoly Magic<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/drupal.org\/project\/ECK\" target=\"_blank\">Entity Construction Kit<\/a>\u00a0 (ECK)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/drupal.org\/project\/inline_entity_form\" target=\"_blank\">Inline Entity Form<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlassian.com\/software\/bamboo\" target=\"_blank\">Bamboo CI<\/a> service from Atlassian<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/livestyle.emmet.io\/\" target=\"_blank\">Emmet LiveStyle<\/a> plugin for Chrome and Sublime<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/singularity.gs\/\" target=\"_blank\">Singularity Grids<\/a> This was brought up again, perhaps Zen Grids will move to singularity.
